from within the Musical Model:

…”in a smooth space-time one occupies without counting, whereas in striated space-time one counts in order to occupy.”

— Deleuze (referencing Boulez)

This reminds me that despite all music existing within a forced time dimension, we can find liberation from the choke hold of mechanical rhythms, and rely on the familiar: natural, internal improvisational time signature; likened to our own distinct breathing pattern

MyBloodyValentine-Loveless

picked up this album for the occasion

Vacation always has great records on their wall. I stumbled in and walked out with SUNN Grimm Robes demos on vinyl. I could hardly believe it when I saw it sitting there on the wall for everyone to see.

“How long has this been up?” I asked.

“We just put that up yesterday.”

The other close call occurred when I saw two Steve Reich vinyl releases on the wall: Electronic Music & Drumming

I lost sleep over only picking up Electronic Music, thankfully the latter was still up on the wall the following day. As I was holding it in my hands, another patron came in:

“What happened to the Steve Reich records?” the patron asked in a panic.

“Sorry, those are gone.”

SOTL

February 12, 2010

Yesterday I thought to download another Stars of the Lid album since I just came to realize that I have been listening to the same one for several hours a day over the last few months. I have one of their records on vinyl as well but the idea of there being more SOTL to download immediately got me excited. Not quite as excited as I am for this:
